While the Award Ceremony and Gala of the 3rdGolden Baklava Film Festival was held in the Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) Congress and Cultural Centre at a magnificent evening, university students who participated in the festival and ranked in the top places with their films were presented their awards in the gala evening.
The gala evening started with the opening speech. Having given the first opening speech, the HKU Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tamer Yılmaz addressed to an excited crowd. Following the Chancellor Yılmaz, the Deputy Chairman of the HKU Board of Trustees Halık Kalyoncu gave his speech. The last opening speech of the gala evening was given by the Gaziantep Metropolitan Mayor Fatma Şahin.
Famous Judges Make Their Mark on Festival Traditionalised in Gaziantep
The films prepared in the “Fictional” and “Documentary” categories by the university students who participated in the festival traditionalised and organised for the 3rdtime in Gaziantep by HKU with 286 different films from all over Turkey were individually examined by the judges. In the festival of which panel of judges was presided by Hülya Koçyiğit, a legendary actress of Yeşilçam, and Engin Altan Düzyatan, the leading actor of the popular serial Diriliş Ertuğrul of the recent days, and Ömer Faruk Sorak, director of several films such as Vizontele, Gora, Aşk Tesadüfleri Sever, were members, the films ranked in the top three places in both categories were awarded by the panel of judges.
Ömer Faruk Sorak, who conversed with students in the first day of the festival which gathered the cinema lovers with a workshop programme which lasted two days, replied the questions from students and mentioned his background, the films he has shot and the difficulties he has experienced. The other members of the panel of judges Hülya Koçyiğit and Engin Altan Düzyatan, who met with students in the gala evening, replied the questions asked to them in cheerful words. Members of the panel of judges who enjoyed pleasant moments among the questions from students made recommendations to the young cinema lovers.
Seven Films Deemed Worthy of Awards
In the 3rd Golden Baklava Film Festival in which 286 films prepared by university students participated in the contest, the films advancing to the finals from among 13 semi-finalists consisting of 6 fictional and 7 documentary ones were assessed by the judges. Of the films so assessed, 4 fictional and 3 documentary films were entitled to advance to the final. In the evening in which films contested in two categories, a total of 7 films consisting of 3 documentary and 4 fictional ones were entitled to awards.
Best Fictional Film: “Kuyu”
In the fictional film category, the best fictional film award went to the film “Kuyu” directed by Rıdvan Yavuz (Atatürk University) while the second award went to the film “Beyoğlu Sineması” directed by Ömer Faruk Özmen (Marmara University) and the third award was shared by two films and tow directors: “Birinci tekil Şahıs” directed by Mahmut Gülkanat (Beykent University) and “Asfalt” directed by Süleyman Demirel (Ankara University).
Best Documentary Film: “Gözyaşı Yolu”
While the film “Gözyaşı Yolu” directed by Engin Türkyılmaz (Ege University) was awarded the first prize in the Documentary Film category, the second award went to the film “Natamam” directed by Özlem Şahin (Mersin University) and the third award went to the film “İpeğin 4300 Teli” directed by Celal Karasakal (Hasan Kalyoncu University).
Baklava, which is a trademark of Gaziantep, has become an important arts and culture trademark of HKU through the 3rdGolden Baklava Film Awards. Planned to be held every year and held for the third time this year, the festival has aroused great interest. While the Golden Baklava Film Festival was held with great interest and intensity, the judges were also presented presents. While Engin Altan Düzyatan received his present from the Chairman of the HKU Board of Trustees Haluk Kalyoncu, Hülya Koçyiğit was presented hers from Nevin Kalyoncu.
